Viola Iva "Granny" Teuscher

Viola Iva Trammell was born October 12, 1924 in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada to William A. and Mary Elliott Trammell.

She married Harrison George Teuscher and their marriage was blessed with four children, Susan, Elliott, Donna and her twin brother Don.

Active in the Downey (California) Rose Float Association for many years, Vi was instrumental in developing and decorating the City of Downey's Rose Parade float and loved every minute of it. She was an accomplished florist for over 35 years. Many of the friends she met through her involvement in the Rose Float Association remained close to her throughout her life. She loved her children her grandchildren, who called her "Granny" held a very special place in her heart. She would go to the ends of the earth to give anything her grandkids needed or wanted. She had a very special companionship with her grandchildren, and each one of them were important to her in their own special way. They were her life. She was also surrounded by many cherished friends.

After many years of marriage, her beloved husband, Harry, died. A few years after that, her youngest son, Don, joined his father up in heaven. Through these losses, Vi felt the sadness of death, but remained strong. As her health failed, her lungs slowly quit functioning properly and she finally had to be put on oxygen. Even then, her courage and strength carried her forward. Her daughter and caregiver, Donna took very special care of Vi and made sure that she did not need or want anything.

Her son, Elliott and his wife, Linda and their family moved to Hartselle, Alabama and one of Vi's greatest dreams was to travel to Alabama to see their new home and their family again. On October 21, 2002, her daughters, Donna and Susan loaded her oxygen tanks and luggage into Donna's Expedition, made a comfortable bed on the back seat and the three of them left Buena Park, California and headed for Alabama. The drive was long, and they arrived at Elliott's home four days later. Over the next few days, Vi was able to see her son and daughter-in-law, most of her grandchildren and their new home. She had an exciting time and was very happy. Her breathing became more labored and her back was hurting, so the family took her to the hospital, where she was admitted. After many years of struggling for air, and surrounded by her children, Vi went to sleep in Hartselle, Alabama and woke up in the arms of Jesus Christ, never again to feel pain or need oxygen. Once again reunited with her husband and son, Vi is enjoying eternal glory.

Remaining behind to cherish her life and honor her memory are her children, Susan Peterson, Elliott Teuscher and his wife Linda, and Donna Teuscher; grandchildren, Derek Teuscher and his wife Jacqueline, Rob Peterson Jr., Richard Singleton, Brian Teuscher, David Singleton, Heather Peterson, Julee Peterson, and Doug Teuscher; a sister, Marjorie Hayes; a son-in-law, Robert Peterson Sr.; and numerous friends. Her wit and charm will never be forgotten by those who loved her so dearly.

Vi's life will be celebrated at a service in her honor on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 10:00 AM in the Waverly Church, 1700 E. Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, California after which she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Harry and with her dear son, Don.

For Christmas 2001, her grandson Derek and his wife gave her a special little poem. It reads

"What You Should Know"

This Christmas, we thought you might appreciate a gift from the heart. In light of what has occurred over the recent months, life seems even more precious, and sharing how we feel about you seems the best gift that we can give you. Thank you so much for being a part of our lives.

Grandma Vi, the woman of the busy hands. Wonderful gifts emerge from you rloving, skillful work, and touch the hearts of everyone with their thoughtfulness; flower arrangements, crocheted dolls, warm slippers. How proud and grateful we were to have your incredible talent with flowers be an important part of our wedding. We admire your spunkiness and practicality, your honesty and your big heart. And through life's many challenges, you manage to keep on having a great time. You are a firecracker, Granny, and we love you very much.

Love, Derek & Charlie
