Jean Charlotte Griffin

Jean Charlotte Nelson was born in Roland, Iowa, on August 3, 1919 to Lloyd and Almira Quam Nelson. She had one sister, Lois.

In 1937, Jean met Ralph Edwin Griffin, who was to become the love of her life. Jean and Ralph became husband and wife in January of 1941. Their love blossamed and brought them both alot of joy during the 60 years they were married. Their union was blessed with two sons, Terry and Tim.

Jean worked for many years as a stenographer and secretary. She retired from the Iowa State Department of Banking, after a satisfying career that was second to that of being a wife and homemaker. Jean and her family were active in the Lutheran church, attending faithfully, and joining a new church each time they moved to another area. Her faith carried her through many difficult times.

Jean and Ralph enjoyed camping and traveling, and, in her younger years she avidly enjoyed bowling. Together, they traveled to national championships and thoroughly enjoyed participating.

The past few months have seen Jean's health deteriorate, to the point that she no longer found the daily enjoyment in life. Her pain and anguish became a heavy load, but through it all, she maintained her faith. On the night of April 23, 2001, Jean fell asleep in her bed, in her home in San Pedro, California, and in the early morning hours of April 24, 2001, she woke up in the arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Her suffering has ended, and she is at rest. Left to celebrate her life and share her memories, are her beloved husband, Ralph; her sons, Terry and his wife Valerie, and Tim; her grandchildren, Cathy, Wendee and Tom; 8 great grandchildren; and many friends who she cherished. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

At her request, she will be taken home to Des Moines, Iowa to be laid to rest in the Glendale Cemetery. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 27, 2001, in Des Moines.
